Tokyo Day 1: Imperial Palace & Ginza District

Date: 6th October 2010

The long-awaiting holidays finally were here. We reached KLIA around 8.00pm to check in for 11.30pm flight to Tokyo. We were a bit earlier, so we had some time to do window shopping at KLIA and had our dinner there :)

Date: 7th October 2010

We landed at Narita Airport at 7.30am (their local time). Malaysia is one hour behind Tokyo time. Upon arrival, we bought the Narita Express tickets to travel to Tokyo. It costs ¥2,940 per person. This trip to Japan, our main focus is to travel around Tokyo.

Once we reached Tokyo Station, we deposited our luggages at the lockers available. We had a light breakfast there which cost ¥450 one set. Then, we took 2 lockers which cost ¥400 per locker. There are various sizes available, so the fee depends on which type that you are using. We also bought the One-Day Pass train tickets for travelling around on that day. It costs ¥1,580 per person. After that, our Day 1 Tour officially began.

From Toyko Station, we walked to the Imperial Palace. It took us about 15 minutes. However, the Imperial Palace is very big. We spent about 3 hours+ to walk around and sight-seeing there. Of course, not to forget the photos taking as well. It was a good weather to walk around on thay day. Quite a cooling day ~

"The current Imperial Palace (Kokyo) is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family."

After the Imperial Palace, we took our luggages and travelled to hotel for checking-in. Since we have the one-day pass train tickets, so we can use it for any train lines. We changed 2 lines to reach Shibakoen Station. From Shibakoen Station, we walked to The Prince Park Tower Tokyo Hotel.

This is a very nice hotel. It is just situated not very far from the Tokyo Tower. From our hotel room, we have a great view of the Tokyo Tower. Thanks to Hubby for this arrangement! Good service and nice bed to sleep on. Haha!

After settling ourselves at the hotel, we went to Ginza district for night sight-seeing and dinner. We walked around the area and spent the whole evening there looking around. A lot of different things to see and very nice city view at night with the lights on...

Before we left Ginza, we bought some cakes from one of the departmental stores ~

Expenses on Day 1 -

NEX Tickets: ¥2,940 x 2 persons
Train Tickets: ¥1,580 x 2 persons
Breakfast: ¥450
Lunch: ¥1,810
Dinner: ¥1,950
Lockers: ¥400 x 2 Lockers
Telephone Card: ¥1,000

TOTAL: ¥15,050

The expenses above are excluded our personal shoppings. There are the basic expenses that we use on Day 1. You might be able to find slightly cheaper food if you walk around deeper in the street to search for it. The mineral water costs around ¥110 per bottle.

Note: Please be prepare to walk a lot!! Actually I don't expect to walk this much, however, I must really admit that, free and easy tours are not really that easy... Haha, the good part is we have our own sweet time to do what we want during the whole holidays, to do things with our own, but the bad part is that, we really need to spend time and energy on walking! Some of the train stations are quite old so they might not have the escalator facilities. So, you need to climb up the staircases with you carrying the luggages together. Good challenge for us on the Day 1 !!

Japanese people are very friendly. Although they don't speak English widely, they will always try their best to assist you in whatever ways which they can. In every train stations, the person who works at the counter can speak simple English. If you want to ask them how much you need to pay for the tickets, which entrance and exit you need to use to travel, they can explain to you in some simple English. I find this very useful to us. Even if you cannot find your ways on the streets, if you walk around, you can find some small police stations to assist you. However, all their signboards on the roads are all written in Japanese.

Conclusion for Day 1: It was really a very tiring day after the flight and lots of walking. So we postpone the Tokyo Tower night view to the next day.
