Tokyo Day 2: Hakone & Tokyo Tower

Date: 8th October 2010

We chose to go to Hakone on a weekday to avoid the crowded situation over the weekend. That weekend was a long weekend in Japan as Monday was a public holiday for them. So, Day 2 in Tokyo: Hakone!

We took the Bullet Train to Odawara. As I wanted to experience the feeling of sitting in a bullet train, so Hubby chose to use this way to Hakone in the morning. But when travelled back to Tokyo town in the evening, we used a cheaper alternative which was to take the normal train. But then I feel that is a little bit waste on the time we spend on a normal train. It took us almost 2 hours to reach Tokyo station. Another tiring day ~ However, Hakone is really worth a visit!

Upon reaching Odawara, after the explanation by the local sales person there, whom can speak very fluent English, we bought the "Hakone Free Pass" which costed ¥3,900 per person. This free pass was actually for 2 days, but we only used it for one day, as our Hakone trip was only scheduled for a day.

Then, we took the Map and our journey started!! Well, we didn't manage to visit all the places in Hakone. We only managed to stop by a few of the famous spots such as Owakudani.

We had our lunch nearby Owakudani. Hubby ordered their special dish! It tasted delicious and really very special too ~ They put a black stone on the soup and let the soup boil. After it boils, you can put in the mee into the soup and start eating :) The black stone can really makes the soup hot. Hehe... First time I see this. So I was so curious about it and shot a short video clip on how it was done.

After travelled to a few spots, we took the cruise which passed by Lake Ashi and stopped by Hakone Machi. We did some light shopping there before we took the Hakone Tozan Bus back to Odawara. Too bad, we did not manage to see Mount Fuji view on that day.

From Odawara, we took the normal train back to Tokyo. The journey back took us almost 2 hours, a cheaper way but more time consuming. So, time vs money ~ It is your choice to choose! Hehe :)

Upon reaching the hotel, after putting down out things, we walked to the Tokyo Tower. It was about 10 minutes walk from our hotel, very near only :) The business hours for the Main Observatory are 9.00am to 10.00pm. So the last admission is on 9.45pm. For the Special Observatory, the last admission is on 9.30pm. Entrance fee is ¥820 per person.

We considered quite lucky on that day, as the light on Tokyo Tower changed colours. I think this did not happen on every day. So we managed to watch 2 different views of Tokyo Tower in 2 different nights :)

After the beautiful night view of Tokyo, we went back to our hotel. Hubby and I had some drinks at the Sky Lounge located at the highest floor in our hotel. We can view Tokyo Tower from there as well. Beautiful view! A very nice place to sit down and relax and chatted over nothing ~
